Firework sales may soon be legal in Smithville

The sale of fireworks may soon be legal in the City of Smithville. During Monday night’s meeting, the mayor and aldermen discussed a possible ordinance allowing fireworks to be sold in city limits. Shooting fireworks is already legal with the exclusion of within the business district, which is state regulated. The ban from 1982 may be lifted at the April meeting.

"Everyone knows the county allows fireworks to be sold," state Hunter Hendrixson "and you can go just a few feet outside of city limits and they’re selling.
