A Brush Creek woman lost her life in a head-on collision Monday morning on Highway 53 in Smith County. According to Trooper Terry Seay of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Wanda Williams, 69, of Brush Creek was a passenger in this 2008 Mercury Marquis, driven by her husband, Doras Williams, 71, when it was struck by a 2008 Ford Fusion, driven by 26-year-old Jeramie Reed of Dowelltown. Trooper Seay told the Review that the Williams' were traveling south on Highway 53 when Reed pulled into their lane of travel in an attempt to pass a van just past the DeKalb County line. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband was transported to Riverview Regional Medical Center North in Carthage. Reed was taken by DeKalb EMS to DeKalb Community Hospital, and later moved to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. The two men’s injuries were apparently not life-threatening. Trooper Seay said that charges are pending in the case. Trooper Jimmy Tisdale and members of the THP Critical Incident Response Team assisted Trooper Seay in the crash investigation. Members of the Smith and DeKalb County sheriff's departments, Smith County and Alexandria fire departments, and Smith and DeKalb EMS and the DeKalb County Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.
