State, federal races shaping up for November

While many paid close attention to the local races Thursday evening, some state and federal races of local importance were taking place, including that for the seat that will represent DeKalb County in Washington D.C.

John Rose handily won the Republican nomination for the 6th Congressional District, outdrawing his closest competitor, Bob Corlew by over 10,000 votes by a count of 43,768 to 33,088. Judd Matheny, long-time state representative out of Coffee County was a distant third with 16,743 votes, carrying only his home county.
