A man who apparently lost control of his vehicle while attempting to flee the scene of a Sunday afternoon accident will likely face charges when he recovers from his injuries.
According to Trooper Tommy Cooper of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Pablo Valenciano was involved in a hit-and-run accident on South Congress Boulevard just after 2:30 p.m.
The trooper said Valenciano was traveling south on Congress Boulevard near the intersectionm with Bryant Street when his GMC Yukon struck a Buick Sentry driven by Kathy Phillips in the rear. Phillips was reportedly stopped in the southbound lane waiting for the traffic light.
Phillips Buick was then driven into an eight-foot utility trailer pulled by a Dodge Dakota pick-up truck driven by Rodney Pelham, who was stopped in front of Phillips.
Valenciano then allegedly left the scene at a high rate of speed, losing control shortly thereafter on Braswell Lane. The Yukon  left the roadway on the right side and overturned, losing a wheel and coming to rest on the remaining three wheels in a yard.
DeKalb EMS transported Valenciano to DeKalb Community Hospital, and he was later flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga by Life Force helicopter.
Phillips and her passenger, 12-year-old Damien Phelps, were transported to DeKalb Community by DeKalb EMS, and were treated and released. Pelham and his wife Teresa, a passenger in his truck, escaped injury.
The THP said charges are pending against Valenciano .
Members of the Smithville Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department and Trooper Bobby Johnson assisted at the scenes.
