Cheerleaders attend camp

The DeKalb County High School Football Cheerleaders' received a host of award at last week’s summer camp, including second-place in the Top Team Performance, ALL Superior Ribbons for each evaluation, the Technical Team Award for Outstanding Jumps, the NCA bid to Nationals, and the spirit stick each night-bringing it back home to DeKalb County. Seven members of the squad were named to the NCA All-American Team: Carlee White, Taylor Marshall, Lexie Bates, Rosa Payne, Kaitlyn Roller, Breanna Gibson, and Lydia Brown.

Adcock, Luna to compete in Wyoming

DeKalb County’s Shara Adcock was named Tennessee High School Rodeo 2014-2015 Breakaway Roping Champion, Reserve Goat Tying Champion, and the All Around Cowgirl on Saturday. She also was awarded the "Best Boot Forward" award for outstanding sportsmanship in and out of the arena. She received three buckles and two saddles along with many other prizes. Adcock will soon travel to Rock Springs, Wyoming to compete. Along with Adcock, La-Kota Luna won the bull riding championship at Saturday’s competition.

Week-long basketball tourney held

Basketball tournaments were held last week at DeKalb High School for regional teams. The games, although not booked, were tense with up and coming varsity players striving to show off their skill. Each game was set in two 18 minute halves. Cannon played Pickett County, losing to Pickett (55-61). Siegel faced Cookeville afterwards, Siegel taking a loss of (31-50). Siegel’s three point percentage was high with consistent perimeter shots, but their loss came from Cookeville’s strong defense causing constant turnovers.
