We have certainly had our fill of the snow around middle TN. The roads last week were so slick on Wednesday our church services were canceled again. The sun was beautiful, but the temperatures just would not rise above the freezing mark for much of the snow to melt. It is hard on those who have to travel to work or travel for their work. I know our mail carriers, FED-X and UPS delivery folks sure feel the pressure on these back roads.
Well Valentine’s Day came and went. Our family had a nice Sunday lunch together, which ended with a heart-shaped cake and coffee. There is nothing like the taste of coffee with an after dinner sweet. The great-grandchildren enjoyed their play-time together, so a good time was had by all.
This week we enjoyed looking back at the history behind Presidents’ Day, which is always celebrated on the third Monday in February. Like Independence Day, Presidents’ Day is traditionally viewed as a time of patriotic remembrance. We know that many DeKalb County students and teachers travel every year to visit the White House. The following are a few facts about the building: the building was built in 1792, there is six floors, the building has survived two major fires, it sits on 18 acres of land with a swimming pool and tennis court, the residential section has 135 rooms and 35 bathrooms, it takes 570 gallons of paint to cover the outside, the Oval Office is the official office of our president, and approximately 7 thousand people visit daily. The beauty is something to see, so if you are ever looking for a good trip, add the White House to your list.
It was good to have Bruno and Geri Frazier home last week for Sunday lunch. They enjoyed attending Dry Creek Baptist Church and staying at their county home. Bruno was loading up some beautiful wood to take back to GA for a pergola the couple is building at their GA home. We are sure Bruno and Geri have a climbing plant in mind to grace the archway of the pergola in their garden. Bruno’s daddy, John Larry Frazier, was an avid plant lover.
We send sympathy to the family of Bobbye Harrison. Ms. Bobbye was a kind gentle soul with a soft voice. She always seemed so encouraging. We know she loved her church family, friends, personal family and grandchildren. Ms. Bobbye spent her working years in DeKalb County Schools. She enjoyed working with our teachers and children. She will be missed.
And the peace of God, Which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
