42nd Annual Older Americans Day Celebration
Older American Month

The month of May is recognized nationally as Older Americans Month, a time when we acknowledge the vital, positive roles older adults make to their families, communities and the nation as family members, friends, mentors, volunteers, civic leaders, members of the workforce and much more. Just as every person is unique, so too is how they age and how they choose to do it – and there is no “right” way. This is why the theme for Older Americans Month 2022 is “Age My Way”.

Justin Potter Library is excited to be partnering with the Alexandria and Smithville Senior Centers in participating in the national celebration by hosting Older Americans Day again after a two years hiatus. The event will be held at the DeKalb County Complex Theater area located at 712 S Congress Blvd in Smithville on Wednesday, May 18th. The vendor displays will begin at 10:00 am for viewing and the program starts at 11:00 am. The featured entertainment will be local ventriloquist, David Turner.

We want to thank the local businesses for providing the door prizes and items for the goody bags and sack lunches for the older Americans to enjoy.

Everyone who is an older American is invited to this free event. For more information, call the library at 615-597-4359 or visit us on our website dekalblibraries.net or Facebook.
