A 76-year-old woman has been charged with domestic violence and assault after she attacked her 62-year-old ex-boyfriend and his new woman.

The report on the incident revealed that Monday at 12:15 p.m. DeKalb Central Dispatch received a call of a domestic violence call on Allen Street in Smithville. DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded.

An investigation into the disturbance found that Sarah Opal Atnip, 76, of Shady Drive in Smithville and Atnip’s adult granddaughter, who was a passenger in her vehicle, had went to this address on Allen Street to confront her former boyfriend. The boyfriend, who is 62 years old, reportedly told Atnip she to leave his property. Atnip then reportedly drove her vehicle into the rear end of the former boyfriend’s vehicle, moving it approximately three feet. The incident prompted her former boyfriend to hit her windshield with a wooden lounge chair in an attempt to stop her from pushing his vehicle. At this time, Atnip’s granddaughter exited her grandmother’s vehicle.

At the same time, another female, who also resides at the residence and is the current girlfriend of the victim and is 57 years old, pulled in the driveway beside of Atnip’s vehicle. The suspect allegedly started cussing the girlfriend, leading to a confrontation. Atnip then reportedly grabbed the girlfriend’s hair and both she and the girlfriend fell into Atnip’s vehicle during the struggle. Atnip then hit the girlfriend with a cell phone. The girlfriend fought back, the commotion prompting multiple calls to Central Dispatch about the incident.

The fight was over by the time lawmen arrived. DeKalb EMS was summoned to the scene and Atnip was transported by DeKalb EMS to the hospital where she received medical treatment and was released a short time later.

Warrants were taken on Atnip for domestic violence and assault. She has a $5,500 bond and her court date is set for Nov. 29. The current girlfriend was also injured in the assault.

An Order of Protection was issued for Atnip to stay away from the former boyfriend and bond conditions were also set for her to stay away from the victims.
