An Alexandria couple is in trouble with the law after a moonshine still was discovered at their residence. A search of the home also revealed drugs and paraphernalia.
According to DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray, on Halloween, October 31, 56-year-old Edward Wayne Tarpley II of Old Liberty Road, Alexandria, and 33-year-old Erica Beth Martin of Terrence Lane, Woodbury, were placed in custody.
Detectives with the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department went to the home at Old Liberty Road on a report of Tarpley possessing a moonshine still. Sheriff’s officials say that Tarpley is on Tennessee Department of Corrections probation.
After a search, a moonshine still was located that was actively making liquor, along with other items used to produce alcohol, including copper tubing, corm mash, and other items.
A search of Tarpley’s bedroom, which he reportedly shared with Martin, resulted in the discovery on 1.2 grams of a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, along with glass pipes, syringes, and digital scales. Both suspect’s personal items were in the room and located in close proximity to the illegal items.
Tarpley is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess, and possession of an illegal still, while Martin is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess. Tarpley is under a $15,000 total bond, while Martin’s bond was set at $13,000 in total. Both are due to appear in court on November 9.
