The Alexandria Police Department made several arrests over the past few weeks, with assaults and drugs seemingly garnering the most charges.
On November 8, 33-year-old Jonathan Rowland of Avant Circle, Alexandria, was charged with tampering with evidence and resisting arrest.
Officers on patrol observed a motorcycle operating on Brush Creek Hwy without lights. Officers conducted a traffic stop and came into contact with Rowland. He was observed with baggie containing a clear crystal substance believed to be a narcotic in his hand.
During the stop with Rowland, 35-year-old Amanda Rowland pulled up in another vehicle. Jonathan began to struggle with the officer and threw the baggie into the vehicle operated by Amanda and told her to drive off. As the officer attempted to arrest Jonathan, he advised Amanda not to leave.
Amanda did leave the scene against the officer commands and has been charged with evading arrest and tampering with evidence. Bond for Jonathan Rowland was set at $4000 and his court date was November 16. Bond for Amanda Rowland was set at $4000 and her court date was set for November 30.
On November 18, 18-year-old Jacob McCowan of Ward Hollow Road, Alexandria, was charged with simple possession schedule VI (marijuana), light law, and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Brush Creek Highway. During the course of the stop, McCowan was found to be in possession of 4.2 grams of marijuana and could not provide proof of insurance. His court date was set for December 21.
On November 19, 32-year-old Robert Frazier and 25-year-old Eathan White of West Main Street, Alexandria, were charged with simple possession of a schedule VI drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were able to track a lost phone to the residence on West Main Street in Alexandria. As officers made contact with the residents at that location, a distinct odor of marijuana could be detected.
During the course of the investigation the officer was able to recover 7 grams of marijuana and misc. drug paraphernalia from Frazier, and 2 grams of marijuana along with drug paraphernalia from White.
Andrew Rau, age 47., who also lives at the residence was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. Their court date is set for December 21.
Duvwon Baker, 26, of Holly Grove Road, Lascassas, was charged with driving on a suspended license. Officers stopped a vehicle on Locust Street for a traffic violation. During the stop it was found that his license was suspended. His court date was set for December 21.
On November 20, 54-year-old Robert (Bobby) Atnip Jr of South 4th Street, Smithville, was charged with manufacture, delivery, and sale of a schedule II drug (Methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to Alexandria Market due to an alarm activation. When officers arrived, they observed a male suspect acting suspicious. As officers were speaking with and observing his behavior, they believed him to be under the influence.
During the investigation officers recovered a case containing two hypodermic needles and a clear straw with crystal residue along with a small folded piece of paper containing .61 grams of methamphetamine.
His bond was set at $11,500 and court date was set for December 7.
On December 1, 38-year-old Jeremy Neal of South Church Street, Alexandria was charged with two counts of child abuse.
Police Chief Travis Bryant said that officers were dispatched to Locust Avenue due to a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with two male juveniles who said they had been assaulted.
Officers were able to determine through video footage that a verbal altercation had begun in the roadway between Neal and the juveniles. The altercation soon became physical when Neal allegedly struck the juveniles in the area of the head and face.
Neal was arrested a short time later at his residence. Bond was set at $10,000 and his court date was set for December 14.
The following day, 37-year-old Alan McMurtry of Brush Creek Highway, Alexandria, was charged with manufacture, delivery, or sell of schedule I (fentanyl), manufacture, delivery, or sell of schedule II (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license.
Officers on patrol observed McMurtry operating a vehicle within the city limits of Alexandria. The officer had prior knowledge that his license was suspended. During the course of the stop, the K-9 unit was utilized and Alan McMurtry was found to be in possession of approximately 5 grams of fentanyl and 15 grams of methamphetamine.
His bond was set as $55,000 and his court date was set for December 14.
During the upcoming holidays, the Alexandria Police Department will be focused on keeping the roadways safe by increasing saturation patrols. We will also be joining the Tennessee Highway Safety Office and other agencies in an effort to reduce traffic related fatalities and reducing impaired drivers on the roadway.
