Alleged tractor thief arrested
Savage

A local theft investigated by the DeKalb County Sheriff Department turned into an investigation involving multiple states, and a local man racking up bumper crop of charges.

Orry Joseph Savage, 33, of Jefferson Road, Smithville was arrested on November 25 and charged with one count of burglary and four counts of theft over $10,000. His bond tallied to a total of $115, 000 and he is set to appear in court on December 19.

The investigation, which has been ongoing since summer, saw Savage being charged with stealing farm equipment, and traveling to other areas and states to trade of sell.  His first local charge is stealing a 2012 enclosed cab John Deere tractor from the Jefferson area on May 21 of this year. The value of the tractor is $75,000. Another theft charge was added from January 1 2019 of a car hauler and New Holland tractor valued at $13,000. On February 7, 2019 Savage knowingly traded a stolen John Deere 6410 tractor out of Warren County for a Polariz Razor and $10,500.  On June 25, 2019 Savage stole a Feather Lite Gooseneck trailer valued at $12,000, out of Tazwell, West Virginia. Sheriff Patrick Ray says some of the stolen equipment has been recovered, and his department is working with other states to locate the remaining equipment.
