Residents in the Allen’s Chapel Road area will face a few headaches next week as road construction will close the roadway to traffic.

According to Smithville Public Works Director Kevin Robinson, the city will be replacing existing metal tiles with new concrete tiles near the Cookeville Highway (Hwy 56) section of the road, forcing motorists to take a detour.

Access from the Cookeville Highway section will be blocked for several days, with the project possibly taking up to two weeks. Motorists are advised to possibly take Big Hurricane Road over to Allen Street, and then back to Allen’s Chapel Road, until the project is completed.
