It was a bad day for one Smithville driver this week, after the load he was hauling struck the Veterans Memorial Bridge, also known as the College Street overpass. Smithville Police and DeKalb EMS arrived at the scene of the crash, but no injuries were reported.

The semi-tractor trailer, pulling a flatbed with a farm tractor on board, struck the overpass, damaging the farm tractor.

The notoriously low bridge has been the scene of many such accidents and authorities remind drivers, especially those hauling large loads or that have tall trailers, to observe the bridge height signs posted.

The bridge underwent repairs several years ago after a truck driver from the county landfill struck the bridge in 2016.
