The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made several arrests last week, including a California man arrested for a stolen weapon, and a local woman for assaulting an EMS worker.
On June 2, 54-year-old Cassandra Lynn Dykstra of Howard Redmon Road, Sparta, was arrested for assault of first responders. She is under a $10,000 bond and she is due in court on June 26.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to Howard Redmon Road to assist EMS. The deputy made contact with EMS personnel who stated that Dykstra and a male subject had been in a physical altercation. One of the EMTs tried to get between the two when she was struck, causing injury to her left wrist.
On June 3, another individual in the case was arrested. Sheriff Ray said that 62-year-old Johnny Michael Howard of Billings Road, Sparta was arrested for aggravated criminal trespassing and possession of a handgun while under the influence. He is under an $11,000 bond and his court date is June 26.
At Howard Redmon Road, deputies reported that Howard smelled of alcohol, and had bloodshot and watery eyes. Howard said he had been drinking. The deputy found a 38-caliber special revolver on his person.
Authorities allege that Howard had gone onto the property at Howard Redmon Road without consent, which caused Howard and the homeowner, Dykstra, to get into an altercation.
In other sheriff’s news, on June 1, 43-year-old Benjamin James Einfeldt of North Linden Avenue, Fresno. California, was arrested for theft of property. He is under a $1,500 bond and will be in court June 12.
According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy was dispatched to Dale Ridge Road in reference to an unwanted guest complaint. Upon arrival the deputy made contact with the victim, who advised that he lived at the residence with the owner and his son, Einfeldt. The victim stated that Einfeldt was destroying the house as they were arguing. The victim further stated that Einfeldt carried a handgun everywhere he goes.
The deputy made contact with Einfeldt behind the house, where Einfeldt advised that the weapon was on the truck bed. After running the serial number of the gun through dispatch, it was revealed that it was stolen out of Cumberland County, Tennessee. Einfeldt was placed under arrest.
The following day, 37-year-old Wesley Hall Scott of Rayburn Walling Road, McMinnville, was arrested for evading arrest in a motor vehicle, fifth offense of driving on a revoked or suspended license, and reckless endangerment. He is under a $20,000 bond.
Sheriff Ray said that on September 9, 2024, a deputy was patrolling Sparta Highway when he noticed a black motorcycle without a license plate. The deputy initiated his blue lights and sirens signaling for the bike to pull over, but instead it sped up and started passing cars on a double yellow line in curves, almost hitting vehicles head on. The deputy terminated the pursuit and notified White County authorities.
White County later notified DeKalb that the motorcycle rider had ditched the bike and took off on foot. The DeKalb deputy assisted White County in locating the rider, Scott, who was found hiding in the woods.
When asked why he ran, Scott allegedly advised that he was on probation and he did not have a driver license. A background check of his license confirmed they were revoked with four prior offenses, and failure to pay court cost in Cannon County.
