Nathan Wayne Stout

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department didn’t have to travel too far for at least two recent arrests, with a couple of inmates charged with various crimes.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on June 11, 29-year-old Nathan Wayne Stout of Sparta, an inmate at the jail, was charged with indecent exposure. His is under a $4,000 bond and will be in court June 27.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 31, at 5:10 p.m., while two correctional officers were conducting a head count and were leaving the annex cell area, Stout called out to them and exposed his genitalia.

On June 3, 40-year-old Nathan Joe Trapp of A.B. Frazier Road, Smithville, a prisoner at the jail, was charged with assault and aggravated assault. He is under a $15,000 bond and was due in court June 20.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 2, at 9:24 p.m., Trapp was seen getting out of his bunk when he began punching repeatedly, then stomping, another inmate while he was on the floor. Four other inmates intervened and stopped the situation from continuing.

On May 14, at 11:21 a.m., a correctional officer at the jail received a call on the radio of a fight in the Jail annex dorm. He responded, along with another correctional officer, who opened the cell door and saw Trapp standing in front of another inmate telling him he had to get out of the annex. The correctional officers reviewed jail surveillance video and witnessed Trapp hit the inmate multiple times about the head, arm, and back with multiple lunch trays.

They then had a nurse witness the marks and swelling on the inmate’s forearm and wrist.

On June 4, 32-year-old Vanessa Renee Poss of West Hurricane Ridge Road, Smithville, was arrested for aggravated assault. She is under a $5,000 bond and was in court date June 20.

Sheriff Ray said that Poss got into a physical altercation with her mother. Poss allegedly grabbed and punched her mother on the ground and placed her foot on the back of her neck, causing the woman’s breathing to be constricted. The woman reported that she felt like she was being strangled.

On June 5, 28-year-old Taylor Shayne Walpole of Lebanon was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. His bond totals $52,500.

Sheriff Ray reported that on January 24 a deputy was dispatched to Foutch Lane for a report of an overdose. Upon arrival the officer made contact with Walpole who appeared to be under the influence, and advised that he had taken Seroquel.

The man’s family reported the man’s medications were in a bag. Inside the bag, the deputy found needles along with a dollar bill hidden behind Walpole’s identification. The bill allegedly contained a bluish powder believed to be heroin that weighed 1.3 grams.

On June 5, 36-year-old Joshua Allen Abbott of Old Highway Road, Sparta, was charged with violation of an order of protection. He was under a $2,000 bond and was in court on June 20.

Sheriff Ray said that Abbott sent a text to a woman, who had obtained the protection order against him, asking if she was going to drop it.

On June 15, 47-year-old Amanda Lanette Knowles of Keltonburg Road, Smithville, was arrested for filing a false report. Her bond is set at $2,500 and she will be in court on June 27.

Sheriff Ray said that on May 28, Knowles filed a report with the sheriff’s department stating her vehicle had been stolen. After an investigation by a detective, Knowles admitted during an interview that her car was not stolen and that she knew at the time of making the initial report that the statement was false.

That same day, 39-year-old Earl Craig Asberry, Jr. of Prater Road, Smithville, was arrested for vandalism. His bond is $1,500 and he will be in court on July 11.

Sheriff Ray said that Asberry was arrested on an active warrant. While enroute to the DeKalb County Jail, Asberry became irate, laid back in the rear seat of the patrol car and began kicking and hitting the rear passenger window and door causing an estimated damage of $1,000.
