DeKalb County High School Seniors Colby Barnes and Morgan Walker have been named the 2022-23 Mr. and Miss DeKalb County High School. The two posed for pictures last week and held an interview.
Walker is the daughter of Renee and Jason Walker and said it was a big honor to be named Miss DCHS. “How this comes about is the teachers all nominate students, five boys and five girls, for the honor and then the whole school votes for Mr. and Miss DCHS,” Walker explained.
”I am really enjoying my senior year,” Walker continued. “It’s really fun. The principals try to make the school year the best it can be and to include all the students in everything.”
Barnes is the son of Terri and David Kilgore, and the late Joey Barnes, and said it was a great feeling just to be nominated. “To me it’s a big honor knowing that all the teachers like you enough to nominate you. It’s pretty good,” said Barnes.
Both Barnes and Walker are active at DCHS, in the classroom and the sports arenas. Both say that math is their favorite subject in school, while Barnes is a star running back and defensive end for the Tiger football team. Walker plays centerfield on the Tigerette softball team, and can be seen during football games as a Co-Captain for the Tigers Cheerleaders. “I am enjoying it [school] and trying to make the most of it because it’s our last year here,” added Barnes.
Barnes is involved with the FFA club, while Walker is a member of the Beta, FBLA, Science, and Literature Club.
When asked what they wanted to do after graduating, Barnes said his plans are still undecided. “As of right now I don’t really know for sure. If I were offered a football scholarship, I would probably take it, otherwise I would probably go to a trade school and become a mechanic,” he explained.
Walker said she wants continue her education at Tennessee Tech University, and plans to major in business and accounting.
