Beckham charge with robbery

Lawmen have collared the man who tried to rob a convenience store, his actions prompting lockdowns at two nearby schools.

The suspect, Joshua Beckham, 26, has been charged with robbery for trying to hold up Discotienda Latina late last month. He had been able to flee the scene before law enforcement arrived by was charged after a Smithville Police Department investigation led to his doorstep.

Beckham allegedly walked into the store clutching a fork-like knife, dressed in all black with a pair of pantyhose of his head to mask his identity. However, the confused bandit walked up to a customer instead of an employee and demand the store’s money.

“I don’t work here,” the woman told the would-be robber, her response sending the frustrated suspect away empty-handed. A Comcast employee who was in the store at the time reportedly stepped into the bathroom to call police.

Given the close proximity of the crime to both Northside and Smithville Elementary, both schools were placed on lock down by authorities looked for the masked bandit.

Police say they have recovered evidence against Beckham including the knife, shoes and gloves used in the attempted heist.
