Beth Chandler named to city council

The vacant Smithville City Alderman seat has been filled. Beth Chandler will be sworn in at an upcoming date as the newest Smithville Alderman.

In September, the open seat became available when Alderman Gayla Hendrix resigned after Mayor Miller appointed her to the Smithville Municipal Court Judgeship. During Monday night’s meeting Mayor Miller appointed Beth Chandler to fill the position, and received a unanimous vote by council members.

“My recommendation to the board, this lady has owned a small business, she’s a member of Leadership DeKalb, she’s been very active in extracurricular school activities and very active in our community,” Mayor Miller addressed the board. “Bottom line is, I believe she will be a great asset to our town and I think she would help keep moving us forward.”

Chandler was sworn in Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, 2020.
