















The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department stayed on their toes over the past couple of weeks, making several arrests for drugs, and assaults.
Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on February 2, Tammy Lynn Peters of Baxter Road, Baxter, was arrested for criminal impersonation. She is under a $3,000 bond.
A deputy was dispatched to Cookeville Highway for a welfare check on a female reportedly sitting on the side of the road. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Peters, who, after asking what her name was, gave the name of Tammy Dickerson, Tammy Flannigan, and Tammy Nealy. After being placed under arrest, the woman gave her actual name, Tammy Peters.
On February 13, 74-year-old Antonio Vera Lujan of Sparta Highway, Smithville, was arrested for public intoxication, and methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess. He is under a $21,500 total bond and he is due in court on February 29.
According to Sheriff Ray, the sheriff’s department was dispatched to the 4500 block of McMinnville Highway for a report of a suspicious person. A deputy made contact with Lujan, who was reportedly unsteady on his feet and had an odor of alcohol coming from his person. He was also allegedly carrying a cooler with six beers inside.
After a search, the deputy allegedly discovered a clear baggy with 2.22 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be meth, and which officials say Lujan admitted was meth. Lujan also allegedly admitted to consuming beer earlier in the evening. For his safety and the safety of the public he was placed in custody.
On February 14, 69-year-old Charles William Beltz II of Tally Road, Smithville, was arrested for methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess. He is under a $30,000 bond and has a court date set for March 29.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford Ranger for failure to stop at a stop sign. After making contact with the occupants of the truck, the deputy was given verbal consent for a search. A passenger, Beltz, also gave consent for a pat-down search at which time the deputy located two red baggies with a crystal-like substance believed to be meth. One bag weighed .79 grams, while the other weighed 2.66 grams. Deputies also located a clear baggy inside the vehicle, with a crystal-like substance believed to be meth weight 1.71 grams. Beltz allegedly stated that all three baggies were his.
On February 16, 27-year-old Olivia Hope Barber of Forrest Avenue, Smithville, was arrested for fabricating or tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance for sale and delivery, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance for sale delivery or manufacture. She is under a $86,500 bond and is due in court on March 7.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Dart on Sparta Highway for having a headlight out. The deputy made contact with a male and a passenger, Barber. After receiving consent to search the vehicle, the deputy allegedly found aluminum foil with residue, and two pipes with residue, on Barber’s side of the vehicle. After being detained, authorities say Barber attempted to conceal a container on her person, pulling away from authorities multiple times, and kicking officers in an attempt to keep from being searched.
When the container was discovered, a small baggie with a pinkish pill substance, believed to be heroin, weighing .59 grams, and another baggy of a peach-colored substance believed to be MDMA, weighing .77 grams, were found.
On February 17, 45-year-old Stephen Patterson of Pine Grove Road, Smithville, resist stop, halt, frisk, search or arrest. He is under a $4,500 bond and will be in court on March 7.
A deputy was dispatched to Pine Grove Road on a report of an unwanted guest. Upon arrival, the deputy learned that Patterson, who had an active warrant, had taken off running prior to the deputy’s arrival.
The deputy later spotted Patterson walking down the edge of the roadway, when the man took off running. The man was ordered to stop multiple times, but Patterson refused. After a brief foot pursuit, he was taken into custody.
On February 18, 35-year-old Terry Ray Barnes of Briarwood Road, Rock Island, TN, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is under a $39,000 bond and his court date is set for March 7.
A deputy was patrolling Nashville Highway when he witnessed Barnes riding a black Honda Shadow. The deputy had prior knowledge that Barnes had a suspended license and conducted a traffic stop.
After the stop, it was confirmed that Barnes’ license was suspended, with four prior convictions for driving on a suspended license. The man was asked if he had anything on him at the time, and Barnes allegedly admitted to having a Larson .380 pistol in his pocket.
The deputy also found a glasses case that contained a pipe and spoon with residue, which Barnes claimed he found in his yard.
That same day, 49-year-old Randall Mitchell Tittle of South Mill Street, Dowelltown, was arrested for methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess and driving on a revoked license. He is under a $17,000 total bond and he is due in court on March 7.
A deputy was patrolling Dry Creek Road when he noticed a red Chevy Malibu. After running the tag, the plate came back as ‘Not of file.’
After a traffic stop, authorities made contact with Tittle who advised that he did not have a license. A check through dispatch revealed the man’s license had been revoked for a DUI on April 28, 2019, in DeKalb County.
After receiving consent to search the vehicle, a silver container containing a small baggy was found with a crystal-like substance believed to be meth weighing .54 grams.
On February 22, 24-year-old Joshuah David Stulak of Jefferson Road, Smithville, was arrested for aggravated assault, and resisting arrest.
He is under a $15,000 bond and is set for court on March 14.
A deputy was dispatched to Jefferson Road on a report of a domestic. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female, who advised that she and her boyfriend, Stulak, had gotten into a verbal argument which turned physical. Stulak allegedly grabbed her by her throat and strangled her to the point of her not being able to breath. The woman reported that she tried breaking away, but was unable.
Authorities say the woman had red marks on her throat, as well as multiple scratches on her chest and a finger.
The deputy later located Stulak in the woods, hiding behind a tree. The man was ordered several times to show his hands, but he refused. Reasonable necessary force was used to take him into custody.
