









The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department has had a few busy weeks making several arrests including drugs and weapons charges.
On November 6, 41-year-old Willie Ray Murphy of West Bryant Street, Smithville, was charged with a second offense of driving on a revoked license. He was under a $7,500 bond, and was in court on November 30.
A deputy was patrolling Four Seasons Road when he spotted Murphy driving a white Lincoln car. Knowing that Murphy’s license was revoked, the deputy pulled him over and confirmed the revocation through central dispatch.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on November 7, 28-year-old Cody Lane Lawrence Bogle of Students Home Road, Smithville, was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. He is under a $25,000 bond and appeared in court on November 23.
A deputy spotted Bogle on West Broad Street with knowledge that Bogle had an active warrant against him. During the arrest, Bogle emptied his pockets and produced a black container, with a piece of tin foil, which held a powdery substance believed to be heroin that weighed 0.28 grams. Bogle allegedly admitted that the substance was heroin.
Bogle also had on him a glass container, which held five white round pills believed to be Carisoprodol, and a baggy, which he produced from the black container which held a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine that weighed 1.5 grams.
On November 10, 26-year-old Tanisha Danielle Bandy of East Main Street, Smithville, was charged with driving on a revoked license. Her bond is $1,500 and she was in court November 30.
Sheriff Ray reported that while patrolling East Broad Street, a deputy saw Bandy driving a maroon Dodge Durango. Knowing that her license was revoked, the officer pulled her over and placed her under arrest. This same officer had cited Bandy for the same offense on November 2.
Chadwick Foster Sherrod, 48, of Tenaha, Texas, was charged with possession of a firearm during a felony, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, and a fifth offense of driving under the influence. His bond is $40,000 and he was in court November 30.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to Nashville Highway for a report of a possible DUI, when he spotted a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling all over the road. The deputy activated his emergency equipment and tried to pull over the vehicle, but the truck failed to stop, almost hitting several other automobiles.
After a pursuit the vehicle stopped, and the officer spoke with the driver, Sherrod, who had a strong odor of alcohol on him. Sherrod’s speech was allegedly slurred, and he was unsteady on his feet. A Winchester model 1200 12-gauge shotgun was found behind the truck seat and several open containers of alcohol were in plain view. Sherrod refused to submit to field sobriety tasks.
On November 15, 28-year-old Christopher Keith Lane Derrick of Floyd Drive, Smithville, wss charged with driving on a revoked license and evading arrest. He is under a $9,000 bond and was in court on November 30.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was on patrol when he spotted Derrick driving a blue Toyota Camry. Knowing that Derrick’s license was revoked, the officer activated his emergency lights and siren to pull him over, but Derrick initially failed to stop. After a brief pursuit, Derrick finally stopped.
On November 16, 54-year-old Billy Cooper Pruitt of Four Seasons Road, Smithville, was charged with aggravated assault. He is under a $10,000 bond and was in court November 30.
A deputy was dispatched to Old Bildad Road due to a report of an unwanted guest. Upon arrival the officer found Pruitt and another man in an argument. The officer separated the two men after which Pruitt grabbed a Marlin model 6022 long rifle and insisted that the other man was going to have to apologize to his wife. After the deputy ordered Pruitt to drop the gun, he complied and was then taken into custody.
On November 18, 44-year-old Dennis Lovett of Brazil, Indiana, was charged with public intoxication. His bond is $2,500 and he will be in court December 7.
Sheriff Ray said Lovett became intoxicated at a residence on Alpine Drive and then got into a domestic dispute on Glacier Drive before leaving that home. He then began knocking on other doors in the area.
Upon being taken into custody, Lovett was allegedly found to have bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and he was unsteady on his feet. He admitted having consumed a fifth of Crown Royal Apple.
