Car Crashes Keep Authorities Busy
Crash
This crash on Allen Ferry Road left a mess after the truck ran off the roadway and crashed in a field.

There were a few car crashes over last week that snarled traffic on local roadways, and caused some minor injuries.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Bobby Johnson, on Wednesday, July 12, 55-year-old Lori Bogle was traveling north on Highway 56 North in a 2008 Pontiac G5, when she crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Chrysler Sebring driven by 22-year-old Jaylen Skinner of Smithville. The impact knocked Skinner’s vehicle into a 2015 Chevy Camaro driven by 20-year-old Daisy Hernandez of Smithville, who was traveling northbound. The impact knocked Hernandez into the yard of a business, Glassworks.

Bogle and two juvenile passengers were transported to Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital by DeKalb EMS, while Hernandez and Skinner, along with a 6-month-old infant in his vehicle, were not injured in the crash.

The crash caused traffic in both directions to be closed until the vehicles could be moved from the scene. Hernandez was issued citation for driving on a suspended license, while Skinner was issued citation for driving on suspended and placed under arrest for an active warrant out of Sumner County.

The following day, authorities worked a one-vehicle crash on Allen Ferry Road that left quite a mess.

THP officials say that 21-year-old Nichola James Palumbo was traveling east on Allen Ferry Road in a 2019 Freightliner flatbed truck when he ran off the right side of the roadway, and struck a ditch. The truck then re-entered the roadway, crossed the centerline, and struck a brick mailbox in an adjacent driveway. The truck came to an uncontrolled rest in a grassy area, spilling its load on the road and grass.

Palumbo was not injured in the crash.

On Friday, July 14, authorities worked yet another crash, this time on Highway 70 at New Home Road.

THP officials say that 58-year-old Susan Randolph was traveling east on Highway 70 in a 2020 Nissan Rogue, with an 11-year-old passenger, approaching the intersection with New Home Road. At the same time, 64-year-old Phillip Prater of Virginia was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection in a 2007 Ford Ranger.

Authorities say that as a tractor-trailer was in the eastbound lane of Highway 70, turning onto New Home Road, Prater’s vehicle left the stop sign and struck the front right of Randolph’s vehicle. No injuries were reported in the crash.
