Jeania Cawthorn is the new general manager at Smithville Golf Course and Swimming Pool but she is far from a newcomer having served eight years at the facility in the past.
“I think I’m the first female manager here,” she said noting the pressure is on to make Smithville Golf Course and Swimming Pool the destination for fun. “I really enjoyed my time here before and I think we can do big things here.”
Swimming lessons, water aerobics, and summer camps are some of the things she plans for the pool while she wants to do open golf scrambles on Monday and Thursday mornings and Sunday afternoons.
“We will have memberships and different packages,” she said. “We will do private pool parties. Those are $200 and they are booking up fast. During the day time, while the pool is open, those pool party packages will be $50. Call ahead for those prices and availability.”
Opening day for the pool will be the last day of school this May. Students can bring their report card and get in free.
Cawthorn said those looking for summer jobs should come by and apply to be a lifeguard. However, all lifeguards will have to be certified. Training will cost $180. Training will be held May 10-11 and continue May 17-18. Certified lifeguards will still have to take a refresher course.
In the area of new things she plans to do, Cawthorn wants to do night golf and open dog walking. “From six to eight in the mornings, before the course opens, people are welcome to come out and walk their dogs,” she said noting they are free to do that immediately. “They need to stay on the paved paths and, of course, bring a bag to collect anything their dog leaves behind.”
She would also like to do a star gazing party and a junior golf league. She also plans golf rules lessons and hopes to get a website up in the not too distant future. Anyone with questions can contact her at 615-597-6648.
