DeKalb County Recovery Court knows that recovery is much more than staying clean and sober. Recovery includes many steps that include connection with family, friends, and their community.

The recovery court hosted its 13th Annual Christmas party at the DeKalb County Complex on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. This year’s party included all participants and their children.

There was also a graduation for John Nelson in which he shared to all the “Priorities in Recovery.” John entered DeKalb Recovery Court October 2021. Since his time in recovery court he has completed Intensive Outpatient Program, completed MRT (Moral Reconation Therapy) and Boundaries classes at the Haven of Hope, maintained full time employments, and just completed his first semester at Motlow Community College. He has maintained sobriety for one year and three months. He will be entering a LPN program for the next year.

Games and laughter was shared as Judge Cox played “get the gift” with the participants.  Gifts were made possible to participants and their children, thanks to Ascension St. Thomas DeKalb, Jackie Vickers in memory of Tom Vickers and an anonymous giver from our community.

A delicious meal was prepared and served by ladies of Christpoint Church. And, even Santa visited the party to see the children.

DeKalb Recovery Court is a minimum 12 month program for non-violent offenders. This program is an alternative to incarceration. Each participant has an individual plan created by the recovery court team that meets each week to review every participant
