Walmart is proud to deepen its commitment to Tennessee by investing in local stores, empowering associates, and enriching the communities it serves every day. Recently, Walmart announced details of 24 planned store remodels across Tennessee this year, including new investments focused on enhancing the associate experience and community engagement—improvements that proudly include the Smithville location.

Store Manager Steve Abell praised the local Walmart team for their dedication and teamwork in bringing the renovations to completion, expressing appreciation to customers for their patience throughout the process. He shared how the Smithville Walmart’s updates have transformed the store, stating, “Shoppers will notice a bold new look with vibrant signage, eye-catching displays designed to better showcase merchandise, and a newly painted exterior. Inside, customers can enjoy expanded departments with even more selection and new items to explore. The store has also increased its capacity for online pickup and delivery, making it easier to meet the growing demand for convenient shopping options. Additionally, the pharmacy area now features wider aisles, a new private screening room, and enhanced privacy at checkout to better serve customers.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony drew community leaders and special guests, including County Mayor Matt Adcock, Smithville Mayor Josh Miller, Sycamore Baptist Church Pastor Richard Williams, and Chamber Director Suzanne Williams. Adding a festive touch to the celebration, beloved mascots Tony the Tiger and Cracker Jack were on hand to take photos with attendees, while free cupcakes and balloon hats delighted guests of all ages.

Chamber Director Suzanne Williams highlighted her excitement about the store’s improvements, especially the new Center Hill Lake and Smithville Jamboree mural located inside the entrance. “The Chamber is very grateful for the role Walmart plays in our local economy, providing jobs, and for being a great community partner,” Williams said.

As part of the celebration, Walmart presented community donations to the Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree, DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department, DeKalb Animal Shelter, and the DeKalb County Fair, further demonstrating its ongoing support for local organizations.

The Chamber congratulates Walmart on this exciting new chapter and looks forward to the positive impact these renovations will continue to have on the community.
