Chapman wrecks stolen vehicle after brief chase

Cory Allen Chapman, 33, of Woodbury and Katie Leigh Mooneyham, 24, of Smithville were arrested Aug. 23 after a short pursuit. Chapman was charged with evading arrest, driving on a revoked/suspended license and theft of property. Mooneyham had two failure to appear warrants which were served.

Chapman refused to stop when a sheriff department detective activated his blue lights. Chapman sped down Short Mountain Highway onto Jacob Pillar Road taking out a road sign and going thru a yard. He continued on Jacob Pillar Road to Turner Road to Old Blue Springs Road onto County House Road where he left the roadway and went into a field and back onto County House Road where he crashed the vehicle. The 1995 Toyota Avalon he was driving was stolen out of DeKalb County on approximately Aug. 1. Mooneyham was a passenger in the vehicle.

Sammy Gene Taylor, 59, of Dowelltown was arrested on Aug. 19 for public intoxication. Sheriff Patrick Ray said a sheriff department deputy was dispatched on Aug. 19 to a location on Hales Lane for an unwanted guest. Upon arrival the deputy was advised that Taylor was highly intoxicated and not supposed to be there.  The deputy saw Taylor near the roadway and witnessed him to have slurred speech, unsteady on his feet and having a strong odor of alcohol.

Stephanie Suzanne Amanti, 32, of Smithville was arrested on Aug. 20 from a sealed indicted delivered by the grand jury on June 2. She was charged with two counts of sale/delivery.

Aubrey Lee Kilgore, 56, of Dowelltown was arrested Aug. 20 and charged with DUI second offense and driving on a suspended license. A sheriff’s department deputy noticed a black S10 traveling north on Bruch Creek Highway leaving his lane of travel. A traffic stop was conducted, where Kilgore said he had taken Xanax and Suboxone and also consumed alcohol. An open container was found in the seat, along with unopened and empty containers in the floorboard. He failed field sobriety tasks. He was also written citations for possession of a schedule II, IV, and V drug, (Xanax, Gabapentin, and methamphetamine) that was found in his mouth.

Sarah Opal Atnip, 78, of Smithville was arrested Aug. 21 for assault. A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a residence on Shady Drive for a physical domestic. A female at the residence said she and her grandmother had gotten into an arguments and her grandmother started swinging at her then grabbed her by the arms.

James Micheal Turner, 53, of Nashville was arrested Aug. 22 and charged with DUI third-offense and driving on suspended. A deputy responded to a possible wreck on Allen Ferry road, where he found Turner’s vehicle had run off the road and was stuck. He had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol and unsteady on his field. He failed field sobriety tasks.
