City Crime report released

Smithville Police made several arrests over the past couple of weeks. Included in those cited or taken into custody:

 

Crystal Myers, 32, and Tisha Cantrell, 33, both of McMinnville were cited for shoplifting.  Police responded to Wal-Mart as Myers and Cantrell were seen concealing items and leaving the store without paying for the merchandise. The merchandise was recovered and returned to the store. 

 

Shawn Evans, 31, was arrested for domestic assault. Police responded to a physical domestic and discovered that Evans had grabbed the victim by the throat and pushed her against a wall and punched her in the face leaving a cut on the left side of her face. 

 

Billie Joe Morris, 46, was cited for theft of property. Morris did take a popup tent from a residence and would not return it to the victim. 

 

Braxton Kain Bennett, 21, was arrested for filing a false report; manufacture, delivery, sale, or possession of methamphetamine and cited for possession without prescription Unlawful.  Braxton Bennett told officers that he had been driving a white Lexus prior in the night when the officer was attempting a traffic stop on Gentry Avenue and he was the only occupant of the vehicle. Upon investigation of witness accounts and video evidence the report he made was false. Bennett can be seen on video in the back seat behind the driver with three other persons inside the vehicle. Officers was advised that there was illegal substance inside the vehicle. Upon searching, Officers found approximately .5 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, two scales, glass pipe, needles, spoons and multiple baggies. Also found were two unknown half white pills to which he was cited for. 

 

Cynthia Lynn Herman, 53, of Liberty was arrested for public intoxication. Police responded to Wal-Mart in reference to a possible intoxicated person. Upon contact with Herman the officer noticed she had slow and slurred speech, somewhat unsteady on her feet and had trouble staying awake. It was discovered that Herman had taken her prescribed medication earlier in the day.

 

Billie Joe Morris, 46, was cited for criminal trespass. Morris was on the property of Bridgeway Motel and she had previously been advised by the manager and owner to not be on the property. 

 

 

Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and cited three people for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine. Marcus John Peregoy, 47, of Liberty was found to have in his possession a clear pipe typically used in smoking meth. Aaron Edward Hines, 26, was found to have in his possession approximately .3 grams of a clear crystal substance believed to be meth and Crystal May Smith, 23, of McMinnville was found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle which was filled with approximately 10 milliliters of a clear substance that field tested positive for meth. 

 

Stephanie Ann Bly Murphy, 44, was cited for shoplifting and simple possession x 2. Police responded to Wal-Mart and were advised that Murphy had altered prices on items she bought in the amount of $9.01 but actually cost $29.59. Upon a search of her purse, police recovered a round white pill believed to be a Percocet, two oblong white shaped pills believed to be Hydrocodone, and 2 1/3 green rectangular pills believed to be Xanax. The medication was found in a prescription bottle not matching Murphy. 

 

Kristopher Hale, 37, was arrested for violating an order of protection.  Hale was served with an ex-parte order of protection at 1:51 am on Oct. 10 preventing him from being around the victim or being at the residence. Later on Oct. 10 at 12:51 p.m. Hale allegedly violated the protection order by going to Jennings Lane and climbing through a window to enter the residence. The victim was at the residence at this time and ran out the front door and called police. 

 

Michael Brandon Laster, 41, of Kingsport and a previous resident of Sober Living was arrested for public intoxication and assault. According to the report, Laster did appear in a public place under the influence of an intoxicating substance and cause people in the vicinity to be unreasonably annoyed by his actions. He also fought with two people in the parking lot of Wal-Mart after he pursued them across the parking lot. 

 

William Andrew Cantrell, 49, and Rhonda Joy Goff, 34, were cited for shoplifting. Police responded to Wal-Mart in reference to two subjects inside the store that had active warrants. Upon making contact with Cantrell and Goff, Cantrell took off through the aisle and was evading arrest. The officer deployed his taser and apprehended him and placed him in custody. Upon search incident to arrest, it was found that Cantrell had concealed four packs of NFL cards on his person belonging to Wal-Mart and Goff had concealed 4 packs of MC cards and two boxes of batting on her person with the intent to deprive Wal-Mart of their merchandise.
