Just a month after being caught by Smithville Police for selling alcohol to a minor, a local clerk is in trouble again for the exact same charge.
According to Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins, Brandy Jackson, a clerk at Smithville Discount Wine & Spirits located at 413 East Broad Street, was among three clerks recently cited for sale of alcohol to someone underage. Jackson had been cited in January 2023, along with six other clerks at various locations, for selling beer to a 19-year-old undercover informant.
At a court hearing, General Sessions Court Judge Brandon Cox approved an informal diversion in each case including for Jackson. According to the terms of the diversion, if the clerks have no further offenses and pay their court costs after six months, the cases were to be dismissed.
Two other clerks, at other businesses, were also cited last week, Trina Guerra of Los Lobos Restaurant at 106 East Broad Street and Jose Barajas of Fiesta Jalisco Restaurant at 130 Walmart Drive. Chief Collins said the informant was working for the Smithville Police Department and agents of the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission who conducted the undercover investigation last Thursday. Chief Collins reported that Jackson sold the informant a bottle of wine from the liquor store, while Guerra and Barajas served beer.
In addition, the business owners will have to make an appearance before the Smithville Beer Board due to the violations. Proprietors of the liquor store will also have to answer to the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission, which issued their liquor license.
