Justin Lee Colwell, a lifelong public servant and respected member of the Warren County law enforcement community, graduated on May 24, 2025, from the Nashville School of Law, earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.), with Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Dwight E. Tarwater as the keynote speaker.

With more than a decade of dedicated service in law enforcement, Colwell has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to justice and public safety. His career includes service with the McMinnville Police Department and, more recently, with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, where he currently holds the rank of Investigator.  Throughout his career, he has been a leader in community policing, major investigations, and officer training.

Colwell’s decision to pursue a law degree reflects his deep-rooted dedication to the legal system and his desire to serve his community in an even greater capacity. His academic journey at the Nashville School of Law—completed while continuing to serve in a demanding leadership role—exemplifies his perseverance, work ethic, and intellectual rigor.

“Law enforcement has always been my calling,” Colwell stated. “Earning my J.D. is an extension of that calling and opens new doors for how I can contribute to justice and the well-being of the people of Warren County.” “I am incredibly proud of my accomplishments at Nashville School of Law and excited to begin the next chapter of my career,” said Colwell. “This journey has been challenging, but it has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in the legal field.”

With his legal education complete, Colwell plans to continue his service in law enforcement while exploring opportunities to merge his policing experience with his legal training, potentially transitioning into legal advocacy, policy reform, or prosecutorial work in the future.

Colwell is the son of Stuart (Tiffany) Colwell and Mingy (Johnny) Ball, of Smithville.  He is the Husband of Morgan Colwell of Rock Island and they have five children.

Colwell’s graduation marks a significant milestone in a life defined by service, leadership, and a tireless pursuit of justice.  He sets an example for others in his field that with dedication and hard work, anything is possible.
