Free Food for the Community!
An effort is underway to make sure families have plenty to eat this summer. Local churches, TVA, Caney Fork Electric Cooperative, and Second Harvest have joined forces to sponsor a weekly food drive. Similar to the food distribution during the spring for kids, this is a drive through and is being held for families on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon at DeKalb Middle School. Chad Ramsey, Pastor of the Smithville First Baptist Church, invites everyone with a need to take advantage of it.
Car Wash & Bake Sale, July 25
There will be a carwash and bake sale for the Ladet Family. I will be held at Discontienda Latina, 431 East Broad Street, (across from God’s Pantry) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free Yard Sale- July 25
Snow Hill Baptist Church is having its annual FREE yard sale Saturday, July 25th from 8 a.m. until 12 on the church lawn. Everything is free. Please no early shoppers and please do not take things to re-sale. In case of rain, sale will be moved to a later date that will be announced. The church is located 2 miles from High School off Hwy. 70 west near the dumpster site, behind the big blue tower. Everyone is welcome. Todd Pack is the Pastor.
Preaching in the Park – August 1
Will be held Saturday, August 1 at Greenbrook Park beginning at 2 p.m. Bring your family and your lawn chairs to enjoy a great time with the Lord. Bro. Glenn Denton and Bro. Early Voting begins July17 for August Elections
Voters will again find it convenient to vote early for the upcoming August 6 election. The early voting hours for the August election will be as follows: Mondays from 1 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.; Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.; Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.; Thursdays from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.; Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until NOON. Early voting for the August 6 election begins July 17 and will run through August 1. Local voters will make their choice in one contested county-wide election, one contested school board race, a contested Smithville Municipal Election and in the state Republican or Democratic primaries candidates are running for US. Senate, US Congressman, and for State Representatives. There are uncontested races for Constable, another school board seat, the mayor and two aldermen in Dowelltown and for aldermen seats in Alexandria. In addition, there is an uncontested race for Criminal Court Judge Part II District 13 and a state judicial retention question.
MTSU Tuition Free
MTSU is spreading the message to prospective students and families about MT Tuition Free, an opportunity where first time freshman paying in- state tuition and attending full time can attend tuition free if they receive the Tennessee Education Lottery (Hope) Scholarship and the maximum federal Pell Grant. Child and Adult Care Food Program

Safety Checkpoints- July 31
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a driver license checkpoint July 31, 2020 on State Route 146 in DeKalb County. Recognizing the danger presented to the public by drivers that are under the influence and unqualified drivers, Troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers that violate the driver license laws of Tennessee. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found driver license check points to be an effective means of enforcing driver license laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protection of all motorists.
