





Melinda Beth Murphy, 38, of Smithville was arrested March 16 and 17, 2024, and acquired multiple charges.
On March 16, 2024 a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a white Ninja motorcycle for failing to use turn signals on South Congress Boulevard. Murphy was the driver. When the name was checked in NCIC, it showed she was wanted in Smith County on failure to appear on drug charges. She was arrested and the deputy transported her to meet with Smith County Sheriff Deputies. Upon getting out of the vehicle, Murphy had two baggies in her hands, one believed to be heroin weighing .4 grams and the other believe to be marijuana weighing 1.4 grams. She was also in possession of a spoon with residue, three needles, and cotton bits. She was charged with poss/cont. substance for sale or del/mfg, simples possession, possession of drug paraphernalia. The total bond of $20,000. She told deputies she had swallowed three grams of fentanyl when officers pulled up so she wouldn’t be found with it. She was taken to the ER.
Anna Danielle Skelton, 22, of Smithville was arrested March 17, 2024. A deputy was dispatched to a local convenience center for a suspicious vehicle. The deputy made contact with a black S10 with no occupants inside. The deputy told anyone present to make their selves known. Two people walked from a trash bin inside the convenience center. Both admitted to being on the property without permission. Skelton admitted that she had removed a post on the property making access available to them. She was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated criminal trespassing. Her bond was set at $1,500, and she is due to go to court on April 4, 2024.
Joshua Lynn McCowan, 38, of Smithville of was charged with possession of contraband into a penal system on March 16, 2024. McCowan was arrested and when a correction officer was in booking McCowan’s personal belongings and found a clear baggie with a white substance in his wallet. The correction officer asked McCowan what it was with McCowan responding, “Bed meth.” He said he had scraped a broken pipe and forgot all about having it in his wallet. His bond was set at $2,500, and he is to appear in court April 11, 2024.
After a deputy conducted a traffic stop on March 16, 45 year-old Samuel Wade Walker of Smithville was arrested. He was charged with driving on a revoked or suspended driver’s license along with possession of drug paraphernalia. The deputy learned that Walker’s license were revoked or suspended, and upon inventorial, a loaded syringe was found on the driver’s sun visor. His bond was set at $6,000, and is to be in court April 4, 2024.
