Criminal Court Pleas
Jail

There were a couple of people sentenced in DeKalb County Criminal Court last week, including a man charged with the rape of a child, and another man charged with aggravated burglary.

On Thursday, December 2, 26-year-old Ruben Alavez Mejia of Smithville pled guilty to rape in a case involving an 11-year-old girl. Majia was arrested in December, 2018, and indicted in April 2019 by the DeKalb County grand jury for having sex with a 12-year-old girl on numerous occasions. The incidents dated back to when the girl was 11, and carried a possible 15 to 25 years apiece if convicted.

Mejia entered a plea to rape and received a sentence of 12 years to serve. He will also be listed on the violent sex offender registry, and will be under community supervision for life. Mejia was given jail credit of 1,090 days.

Majia had other brushes with the law in 2019, when he was cited for DUI, no license, violation of due Care, and financial responsibility. Police responded to the bridge at the intersection of Broad and South Mountain Street where Mejia had crashed head on into the bridge. Mejia was unable to stand on his own, had blood shot eyes, a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his person, and passed out on scene.  He was transported to the emergency room.

Also last Thursday, 29-year-old Marv Cash Fullilove pled guilty to aggravated burglary for an offense that occurred in September 2018. Fullilove was facing charges of aggravated burglary and theft under $1,000.

Fullilove was sentenced to three years with time served, court costs, and restitution to the victims.
