Citing his years of experience in leading a major metropolitan city to unparalleled growth, Democratic Gubernatorial hopeful Karl Dean says he wants a chance to make Tennessee a better place for its citizens.
“I loved my time in public service and doing something to help people,” said former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean during his interview Friday with the Smithville Review, noting he will bring his experience of leading Nashville to economic boom in spite of the recession to leading the state of Tennessee.
Among his top concerns will be health care. “We need to stop our money from going out of state,” Dean said of policy that has cost Tennessee millions of dollars over the past years, that loss triggering high health costs and rural hospital closures. “We have to stop the trend of rural hospitals closing their doors which denies access to many patience to health care.”
He would also like to see more resources put into rural Tennessee. I would like to see universal broadband internet in all rural areas of Tennessee, noting that such progress would go hand-in-hand with elevating public education in the Volunteer State.
“My opponent is for school vouchers,” Dean said. “All vouchers do is take money out of the public education system.”
Dean said he will be transparent as governor, noting his opponent, Bill Lee, has not revealed his tax returns as he has done.
At the end of the day, Dean said people should vote for him because of his experience as Nashville mayor and overseeing a two billion dollar budget.
