Get ready to have a fun-filled day at the DeKalb County Fairground on Oct. 31. Though the traditional full week of fair was cancelled due to COVID-19, the fair board has created a free event for DeKalb County residents to enjoy.
The DeKalb County Fair will be hosting a one-day event featuring a full day of pageants, an antique car and tractor show, corn hole tournament, pet show, singing at the Memory Lane Stage, a kiddie tractor pull, barnyard games for the kids, limited entries in the Sandlin Building and a Halloween Trunk-or-Treat and costume contests.
The Fall Festival will kick off at 9 am. All pageants normally held during the regular annual fair will all take place beginning at 9 am at the Lions Club Pavilion at 9 am. There is a contest for those ages one day up to senior citizens. The first contest scheduled is the baby contest ages one day to 12 months followed by the toddler show ages 13 to 47 months, Little Mister and Little Miss ages four-six, Miss Princess seven to nine years, Miss Sweetheart 10 to 12 years, Junior Fair Princess 13 to 15 years, Fairest of the Fair 16 to 20 years, Miss Fair Queen 21 to 54 years, Mrs. Fair Queen 21 to 54 years and Miss Senior Queen 55 and up respectively.
There will be no carnival on hand, but on the midway there will be an antique tractor and car show and barnyard games for the children. There will also be a corn hole tournament kiddie tractor pull. At the open barn, you can enter your pets in the pet show. In the Sandlin Center, though there will not be a complete list of categories as usual, there will be categories for canning, crops, art and photography to enter and see during the day. The Memory Lane Stage will ring with music with a variety of singing and performances.
Beginning at 5 pm the spooks are welcomed to attend the Trunk-or-Treat, provided by area businesses and local residents. After the treating, children are urged to participate in the costume contest.
Other events may possibly be held during the day, and a full event list with times and complete information will be released once confirmed.
The fair board encourages attendees to wear face coverings.
The event is subject to change depending on COVID-19 and rulings from the governor.
