DeKalb County firefighters worked the scene of a travel trailer fire last Sunday evening that also threatened a local home. Fire crews were able to get the blaze under control, but not before the trailer, a deck, and the roof of the house were damaged, along with a truck.

Fire officials say that on July 31, at approximately 7:14 p.m. E-911 dispatchers received a call reporting a fire at 2752 Corinth Church Road. Due to the proximity of the blaze to neighboring Warren County, North Warren Fire and Rock Island Fire were also dispatched to the scene.

Belk Engine 66 with the DeKalb Fire Department was first on the scene and found the trailer was fully involved. DeKalb Fire, along with North Warren, were able to extinguish the fire using approximately 2,000 gallons of water.

The owner, Robbie Lawson, stated that he and his son, Robin Lawson, were outside when they noticed flames coming from the middle section of the trailer. Robbie initially tried to get inside the trailer fearing his son was trapped, but soon discovered his son was not inside.

The men then tried to use the water hose to extinguish the trailer, but the blaze got out of hand. The trailer was near a home and was endangering the structure, so they focused on the house. Along with the trailer and house, a 2001 F-350 Ford truck was also damaged.

The DeKalb Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene to render aid. No injuries were reported.
