UNION CITY, Tenn. (March 1, 2024) – Officials with the Dekalb Utility District have announced that a current employee, Brey Dedmon, has been enrolled in a statewide apprenticeship program administered by the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD).
As a participant in the program, Dedmon has been enrolled in the Water System Operations Specialist Program with the goal of achieving certification as a multi-licensed operator.
Dedmon will be mentored by Dekalb Utility District General Manager Jon Foutch throughout his time in the program. Dedmon has been with the department since November 2017.
“We’re excited to announce the new employer agreement with Dekalb Utility District and Brey’s enrollment in the apprenticeship program,” said Kevin Byrd, TAUD Workforce Development Coordinator.
“Brey’s participation will help him in his career advancement and also make him an even more valuable asset to Dekalb Utility District by ensuring the continued integrity of the facilities in county.”
The TAUD Apprenticeship Program is a federally registered, Department of Labor & Workforce Development, apprenticeship program. The program is part of a national apprenticeship initiative that is overseen by The National Rural Water Association. TAUD is a utility association that provides a variety of technical support and services to water, wastewater, and gas utilities across the state.
The program is designed to address the need for certified water and wastewater facility operators in rural Tennessee communities. Additionally, the TAUD Apprenticeship Program strives to bring awareness of careers in the water industry and good stewardship of our water resources to the youth of Tennessee.
