The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made several arrests last week, including a couple of felons for having a gun, and a man wanted for contributing back in 2022.
Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on January 26, 43-year-old Cameron Michael Hudgens of Mount View Drive, Sparta, and 34-year-old Candace Star Short of Elsie Road, Doyle, were arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon. Both are under a $10,000 bond each and are set to appear in court on February 8.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a white Nissan Ultima for improper display of tags. After gaining consent the deputy conducted a vehicle search and located Phoenix .22 cal. handgun between the passenger seat and center console. After speaking with Hudgens and Short, both admitted they were convicted felons, but neither would claim ownership of the firearm. Both were placed in custody.
That same day, 30-year-old Trista Denise Armour of The Loop, Smithville, was charged with filing a false report. She is under a $7,500 bond and is due in court on February 8.
On January 24, Armour allegedly reported to a deputy that she had changed her statement on a report from January 3. Officials say that Armour lied to law enforcement about the details of a case after a defendant was arrested.
On January 29, 22-year-old Jon Paul Russ of Kingwood Drive, Murfreesboro, was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is under a $5,000 bond and he is due in court on February 15.
On or about October 28, 2022, on Tiger Drive in Smithville, just up from the DeKalb Health Department, Russ was in control of a gray 2014 Ford Escape when he allegedly picked up two juveniles who had left the high school without permission and were running away from their homes.
One of the juveniles is in state custody and resides at the New Frontiers Boys Home in Dowelltown, while the other juvenile was under probation in DeKalb County. Both jumped into the rear passenger side door, and left the area.
Both juveniles were later entered as missing into the NCIC. One juvenile was found in Murfreesboro on October 29, 2022. The case was investigated by a school resource officer, and a warrant was issued for Russ in November 2022. Russ was only recently arrested for the charge.
