Two people are facing a laundry list of charges after an attempted traffic stop resulted in a multi-county chase, ending with the suspect’s car being forced off the road. According to DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray, 39-year-old Warren Brandon Glasby of Poss Street, Smithville, and 29-year-old Katelyn Luann Goodwin of Allens Ferry Road, Smithville, were arrested after the pursuit.
Sheriff Ray reported that on Monday, April 10, a deputy was patrolling Woodbury Highway when he noticed a red Ford Mustang failing to maintain its lane of travel and almost striking another vehicle. The deputy turned around to intercept the Mustang at Woodbury Highway and Nashville Highway, but when he initiated his emergency lights and siren, the Mustang fled into Cannon County, to Wilson County, and then back into Cannon County.
While in pursuit, a rifle was brandished by the driver, Glasby, who pointed it towards law enforcement, then tossed out the window. The passenger, Goodwin, allegedly handed the weapon to Glasby, along with other things that were thrown at law enforcement. Goodwin also threw a large cooler out of the window of car at deputies, while Glasby allegedly tossed numerous baggies, clothing and the firearm out of the vehicle. The objects were later recovered by authorities.
During the pursuit, Sheriff Ray said the Mustang was placing the public in danger, including nearly hitting a pedestrian in the area. Sheriff Ray instructed the deputies to force Glasby into a ditch line and after the crash Goodwin stayed with the vehicle, while Glasby fled on foot. Glasby ran to a nearby creek then into a field before he was forcibly taken to the ground and handcuffed.
After being taken into custody, authorities found a grocery bag that contained 1.95 ounces of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and 10 grams of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, inside a grocery bag stuffed into Glasby’s pocket. A background check through central dispatch also revealed that Glasby’s driver license was revoked.
Glasby, a convicted felon, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a first responder, evidence tampering, resisting arrest, driving on a revoked license, reckless endangerment, evading arrest by a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, possession of a schedule II drug (cocaine), and possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver. He is under a total $225,000 bond and will appear in court on May 16.
Goodwin is charged with reckless endangerment and two counts of aggravated assault on a first responder. Her bond is $32,500 and she will be in court April 27.
In other sheriff’s news, on April 13, 42-year-old Christopher Eudean Pack of Big Rock Road, Smithville, is charged with public intoxication. He is under a $2,500 bond and will be in court April 27.
According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy responded to the area of Nashville Highway and East Main Street in Liberty on a report of a man falling asleep in the back of a truck. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Pack who was reportedly unsteady on his feet and his eyes were bloodshot. Pack was unable to stay focused on the sobriety tasks he was asked to perform. He was then placed under arrest.
That same day, 33-year-old Linda Sue Bennett of West Main Street, Smithville, and 32-year-old James DeAllen Caplinger of West Broad Street, Smithville, are each charged with vandalism and aggravated criminal trespassing. Bond for each is $6,500 and they will be in court April 27.
Sheriff Ray said that on April 6, 2023, Bennett and Caplinger entered the property at 517 Hogs Foot Road, Liberty, without consent and broke several windows of the residence and a car. No trespassing signs were posted on the property at the time. The estimated damage was $4,178.97. The case was investigated by a sheriff’s department detective.
