Drugs and assaults seemed to take up most of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department’s time last week, with several placed in custody.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, on February 3, 55-year-old Curtis Lee Adams of Midway Road, Smithville, was arrested for methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess. He is under a $25,000 bond and is due to appear in court on February 22.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford car for failure to maintain its lane of travel. Upon making contact with the driver, Adams, the deputy had the man step out of the vehicle at which time Adams allegedly gave consent for a pat-down search of his person.

Authorities say the search produced a clear baggy with a crystal-like substance believed to be meth weighing 3.64 grams.

On February 6, 53-year-old Johnny Darrell Murphy of Andrews Street, Smithville, was arrested on two counts of domestic assault. He is under an $8,000 bond and is set to appear in court on February 22.

Authorities allege that Murphy struck his girlfriend, causing injury to her right ear and elbow. They also allege that Murphy struck his daughter across the right side of her face, causing redness and knocking her glasses off.

On February 7, 43-year-old Christie Dawn Bouldin of Wiguam Street, Sparta, was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest. She is under a $5,000 bond and she is set to be in court on February 22.

A deputy responded to Holmes Creek Road in reference to a possible domestic. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Bouldin who authorities say was acting erratic and appeared to be under the influence.

After giving the woman several commands, Bouldin went into the lake where she swam to the other side. The deputies were able to walk around to where Bouldin tried to run, but she was placed into custody for her safety and the safety of the public.

That same day, 32-year-old Joshua Alan Tipton of Kings Court, Smithville, was arrested for public intoxication. He is under a $2,000 bond and will be in court on February 22.

A deputy was dispatched to Dearman Street for a welfare check on a male subject, sitting on the side of the road with no shirt on.

The deputy made contact with Tipton, who authorities say could not stand still. Deputies reported that Tipton’s eyes were dilated and that he could not hold a conversation. He was believed to be under the influence of narcotics and for his safety and the safety of others he was placed in custody.

On February 8, 41-year-old Justin Kieth Liggett of Pumpkin Hollow Road, Dowelltown, was arrested for violation of an order of protection. He is under a $3,500 bond and he is due in court on February 29.

Authorities say Liggett was found at a residence on Parkway Drive with the protected person.
