The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department had a busy week, making several arrests, including one where a man opened fire outside a residence.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on February 8, Cody Lynn Murphy, 33, of Smithville, was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault. His bond was set at $15,000 total bond, and he is to be in court Feb. 23
On February 6, a deputy responded to Ferrell Road to a shots fired call. The deputy talked with two victims who said Murphy drove by their residence in a black Nissan Altima and began to argue. During the argument, he showed a 9mm pistol out of the driver’s side window. The victims returned to their homes, and as Murphy drove away he allegedly shot multiple times. Two 9mm casings were found at the scene.
On February 7, Melissa Elaine Edmunds, 41, was arrested for domestic assault. Her bond was set at $1,000, and she is due in court on Feb. 23.
A deputy responded to a physical domestic at a home on Big Woods Road, where a 15 year-old said he was assaulted by Edmunds, who is his aunt and legal guardian. The juvenile said he and Edmunds got into argument, and she smacked him in the face and the back of the head several times.
That same day, Julian Pinkerton, 29, and Vanessa Ingram, 33, both of Smithville, were also charged with domestic assault. His bond was set at $5,000, hers at $1,500, and they are both to appear in court date is Feb. 23.
Deputies responded to a physical assault call on Kelly Drive, where they talked with a female. She told deputies that she and her boyfriend, Pinkston, got into a physical fight. The female admitted that she and Pinkston were arguing, and he struck the right side of her face leaving a mark. She returned the favor and struck him as well. They were both charged with domestic assault.
On February 8, Floyd Lee Culwell, II, 48, of Smithville was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is to appear in court Feb. 23.
Deputies went to a property to serve a writ of possession on the property out of Chancery Court. Culwell was informed he and everyone there was to vacate the property immediately, but he refused. He was arrested and charged.
On February 11m Juan Carlos Sosa, 45, of Alexandria was arrested with third-offense DUI and driving on a revoked license. His bond was set at $10,000.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle which failed to maintain its lane of travel. Sosa was the driver. He had a strong odor of alcohol. He stated that he had drank one beer earlier. He performed one field sobriety task, which he performed poorly, then refused to perform more. His license came back as revoked for driving under the influence.
