The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department didn’t slow down for the Thanksgiving holiday last week, making several arrests, including a man with a large amount of drugs in his possession, and another man for forgery.
Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on November 22, 45-year-old Rickey Lee Tisdale of Lebanon Highway, Carthage was arrested on multiple drug charges. Tisdale is charged with methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess, simple possession of a schedule VI drug marijuana, possession of a schedule I drug heroin, driving while suspended second offense, possession of a firearm during a felony, and a possession of a schedule IV drug. He is under a $64,500 bond and is due to appear in court on December 2.
Authorities say that deputies noticed a vehicle, driven by a male subject, not wearing a seatbelt. Deputies that noticed the vehicle pull into and address where deputies were attempting to serve a warrant. The driver was found to be Tisdale, and the officer had prior knowledge did not have a valid driver’s license.
Tisdale reportedly admitted to the deputies that he did not have a license. He has prior convictions for driving while suspended, and told authorities that he just received a citation the week prior. He was then placed under arrest.
A search of Tisdale resulted in deputies finding a Crown Royal bag with a scale, with residue, a metal container with two clonazepam pills inside, a baggy with tinfoil inside, and a marijuana cigarette.
Tisdale’s vehicle was then towed and an inventory search was conducted. Inside, a magnetic box was found under the driver’s seat that contained a white clumpy substance believed to be heroin, a baggy containing a crystal-like substance believed to be meth, more additional baggies, and other drug paraphernalia.
The total weight of the heroin was 4.12 grams, and the total weight of the meth was 2.86 grams. A Highpoint pistol was also found between the driver’s seat and the center console.
That same day, 53-year-old Dickie Ray Bain of Petty Road, Smithville, was arrested for methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess. He is under a $25,000 bond and is due in court on December 2.
Sheriff Ray said that deputies made contact with Bain on Allen Ferry Road in Smithville, and that he had active warrants and was placed under arrest. A search of his person resulted authorities finding a baggy containing a powdered clumpy substance believed to be meth. A field test of the substance tested positive for meth. The weight of the meth was 1.31 grams
Bain also reportedly had a large sum of cash on his person, which was seized by the Sheriff’s Department.
On November 23, 53-year-old Joseph John Lehman of Edgewood Street, Alexandria, was arrested for domestic assault and violation of bond conditions. He is under a $5,500 bond and is due in court on December 16.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to Edgewood Street for a physical domestic call. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female, who advised that she and her boyfriend, Lehman, got into a verbal altercation. The victim alleged that Lehman then threw her onto a wall, and then on the ground.
The female had multiple contusions on her forehead and lacerations to her lip, feet, and legs. Lehman had active bond conditions from a prior incident. He was arrested for domestic assault and was intoxicated at the time.
On November 24, 22-year-old Jesse Glenn Ferrell of Dry Creek Road, Smithville, was arrested for public intoxication. He is under a $1,500 bond and is set to appear in court on December 9.
A deputy responded to Tabernacle Road in reference to a call of an unwanted guest. There, the deputy made contact with Ferrell, who appeared to be intoxicated. Ferrell reportedly told the deputy that he was under the influence of speed. Ferrell then became irate and began kicking the door of a parked vehicle. He was then placed in custody.
On November 26, 42-year-old Zeb Donovan Pololu of Smithville Highway, Smithville, was charged with methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess, driving on roadways lane for travel, and no insurance. He is under a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 16.

Sheriff Ray reported that a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a red Chevy minivan after noticing the vehicle cross the white dotted live several times. The deputy then made contact with Pololu. Upon a search of the vehicle, 2.13 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be meth was found inside a baggy, inside a pocketbook. Also found in the vehicle was multiple baggies, and two scales, one of which had a white substance on it.
The following day, 60-year-old Terry Wayne Shores of Hancock Road, Smithville, was arrested for driving under the influence. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due to be in court on December 9.
A deputy stopped Shores for failure to maintain lane of travel. After making contact, the deputy noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from Shores. When asked to step out of his vehicle, he was unsteady on his feet, and also admitted to drinking earlier in the night. He submitted to field sobriety tasks, which he performed poorly.
Sheriff Ray said that 33-year-old Sean Stephen Bess of Puckett’s Point Road, Smithville, was arrested on November 27, for crimes committed over a year earlier. He is charged with aggravated burglary, two counts of theft, and forgery. He is under a $31,500 total bond and will be in court on the charges on December 16.
According to Sheriff Ray, on June 10, 2020, Bess entered a residence on Puckett’s Point Road and stole four checks. On June 12, 2020, through to July 21, 2020, Bess forged the signature of someone on the checks that were deposited into his account at Regions Bank. Authorities say that Bess deposited the checks with the intent of depriving the owner of their money. The total amount of the checks was $1,310.40.
