The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department responded to several calls over the past week, with assaults taking up much of the deputies’ time. Several people were arrested after they just couldn’t keep their hands to themselves.

Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on November 30, 27-year-old Tyler Shawn Fowler of Chicken Road, Lebanon was arrested for assault for an incident that occurred on November 25.

Authorities allege that Fowler assaulted a male victim, striking him in the face multiple times with his right hand. The incident was captured on video footage, showing Fowler initiate the assault. Fowler is due in court on December 16.

That same day, 36-year-old Curtis Allen Lloyd of Andrews Street, Smithville, was arrested for domestic assault.

According to Sheriff Ray, Lloyd punched a female victim in the face during an argument while they were driving down Midway Road in Smithville. The assault caused swelling, bruising, and bleeding to the upper lip and mouth of the victim.

On December 2, 32-year-old Christy Renee Lawson of Poss Road, Smithville, was charged with aggravated assault. She is under a $3,500 bond and she is due in court on December 16.

Authorities say that a deputy responded to Poss Road for a call concerning a physical domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact two subjects, Lawson and a male subject. The man advised that he and Lawson had been in an altercation when Lawson became physical. Lawson began trying to hit and kick the male subject, before she allegedly picked up a rock, hitting him in the head and causing him to bleed. The victim also had several other marks and cuts on his person.

The following day, 47-year-old Michael Lance Chancey of Sparta Highway, Smithville, was arrested for domestic assault. He is under a $3,000 bond and is due in court on December 16.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to Sparta Highway for a possible domestic call. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female who stated that earlier that day that Chancey punched her in the face, and after they went inside the residence Chancey kept arguing with the woman. He then allegedly pulled her off the couch and slammed her onto the floor, causing bruising a bleeding to both her knees.

On December 5, 43-year-old Arturo Alfaro Munoz of Short Mountain Road, Smithville, was charged with  DUI second offense and driving on a suspended license. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due in court on January 6.

A deputy was on a call on Short Mountain Highway when two vehicles passed. One stopped and told the deputy that the other vehicle was following him and trying to fight. The deputy then performed a traffic stop on the maroon Chevy truck, driven by Munoz.

While approaching the vehicle the deputy allegedly noticed four open containers in the vehicle and a strong odor of alcohol. The deputy issued field sobriety tasks, which Munoz performed poorly on. When asked if he had been drinking, Munoz allegedly stated ‘Yes’.
