Domestics and Trespassers Keep Police Busy

Smithville Police had a light week, with domestic assaults and trespassers taking up most of their time.

On May 9, 30-year-old Stephanie Mooneyham of 639 Toad Road, was arrested for domestic assault. Mooneyham allegedly assaulted a victim by striking her in the face and neck area causing injury. She is under an $8,000.00 bond and is due in court on June 2.

The following day, 39-year-old Jessica French Hale of 218 Jennings Lane was cited for trespassing. Hale was told and signed a trespass form on July 15, 2021 to not be back on Wal-Mart property. Hale was allegedly observed at Wal-Mart on May 10. She will appear in court on June 2.

On May 13, 29-year-old Martha Isabel Almaguel Soto of 524 Frasier Street was arrested for domestic assault. Police responded to a fight call and say that Soto assaulted the victim by scratching her face, leaving visible injuries, including bleeding. She is under a $3,500 bond and will appear in court on May 26.

On May 15, 43-year-old Jason Richard Skaroupka of 1222 South College Street was arrested for criminal trespass. Skaroupka was found at 1222 South College Street after he had been trespassed from that location several times. Officers were looking for Skaroupka due to an active warrant for failure to appear out of DeKalb County and knew he was trespassed from the property. He is under a $3,000 bond and is due in court on May 26.

That same day, 30-year-old Sonny Roman Smith of 321 Wade Street was arrested for public intoxication. Police were dispatched to Crestlawn Avenue in reference to a possible domestic dispute. On arrival, the officer allegedly observed Smith in a front yard yelling at family members. He was asked several times to calm down and stop yelling. He was acting belligerent, had slurred speech, and seemed unsure of what was going on.

The officer was informed that he has been taking drugs and drinking earlier. For his and the public’s safety, he was taken into custody. His bond was set at $500 and he will be in court on June 2.
