It was another busy week for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department with domestic cases being the most dominating. Several arrests were made following arguments that became physical.

DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on May 29, 23-year-old Daniel Padilla Aguirre of Campbell Road, Smithville, was arrested for criminal trespassing.

According to Ray, a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy observed Aguirre walk off a property on Cecil Hale Road, where he had been previously been issued a citation for trespassing by another deputy on May 11, 2021. He is under a $3,000 bond and is due to appear in court on June 10.

On May 31, 47-year-old Michael Lance Chancey of Sparta Highway, Smithville, was arrested for domestic assault.

Authorities say that deputy responded to a domestic call on Sparta Highway, where he observed a female with apparent injuries to her forehead and leg. The female reported that her husband, Chancey, had assaulted her by smacking her and throwing her against a wall, because she had told him that he had had enough to drink and that she would not buy him anymore alcohol.

Authorities say that Chancey was uncooperative when asked about argument by the deputy. He was placed into custody without any further incident. He is under a $3,500 bond and is due in court on June 18.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on June 1, on meth charges. Sheriff Ray reported that Trevor Ray Campbell of Billings Road, Sparta, is charged with methamphetamine manufacture, deliver, sell, or possess.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was on patrol in the area of Sparta Highway when he observed a red Ford Ranger with no registration displayed. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found the registration in between the back glass and the passenger seat but, the plate had expired in October of 2019.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy also reported smelling a strong odor of raw marijuana from within the vehicle. According to the deputy, he was advised by the occupants that they had marijuana inside the vehicle.

When the driver, Campbell, was asked to exit the vehicle, the deputy says he observed the man try to pass a container off to the passenger. When the container was retrieved, the deputy reported finding a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately .3 grams.

Campbell was placed into custody and transported to the DeKalb County Jail. He is under a $3,500 bond and has a court date set for June 24.

A Smithville man was arrested after trying to flee from authorities. Sheriff Ray said that on June 2, 29-year-old Nathaniel Dylan Tippens of Morgan Drive, Smithville, was charged with evading arrest, after he evaded law enforcement, on foot, while authorities were attempting to take him into custody for an active warrant.

Tippens is under a $3,500 bond and is due in court on June 17.

Authorities say that 38-year-old Natasha Anne Sellars of Evins Mill Road, Smithville, was arrested on June 4, on two counts of domestic assault. According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy responded to Evins Mill Road for a domestic call, and upon arrival the deputy made contact with Sellars, who authorities say was being irate.

The deputy also made contact with one of the victims, Sellars’ mother, who reportedly had a scratch on her left cheek and a bruise on her right elbow. DeKalb EMS was also at the scene and advised that another victim, Sellars’ aunt, had a possible broken collar bone.

After an investigation, Sellars was placed under arrest.

A 36-year-old Smithville man was arrested for repeatedly driving on a revoked license. Sheriff Ray said that on June 6, Jonathon Dewayne Barnes of Talley Road is under a $5,000 bond after being charged with driving on a revoked license, seventh offence. He is due in court on June 24.

Authorities say, a deputy was on patrol in the area of McMinnville Highway when he observed a male subject operating a white Nissan car and not wearing a seatbelt. The deputy stopped the vehicle and found the driver to be Barnes. A license check revealed Barnes’ license had been revoked for the theft of a motor vehicle out of DeKalb County, and was found to have six prior driving on revoked convictions.

Barnes was arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
