David Eugene Driver, 49, of Smithville was arrested three times in less than a week racking up a number of charged. On March 1, a deputy responded to a residents on Holiday Haven for an unwanted guest. The deputy spoke with a female who stated she had an order of protection against Driver and that he had been sitting out in her driveway. While the deputy was there, Driver called the female twice. The contact was violation of the order of protection. On March 7 deputies arrested him again the same thing along with aggravated stalking and being a habitual driving offender. On March 6, Driver violated the order of protection by making deliberate and threatening contact with the female at McDonalds. Video cameras at the restaurant caught it on film. He was also charged with aggravated stalking by continuing a willful course of conduct between Feb. 15 and March 7 of a continuous harassing nature causing emotional distress to the victim. The charge of habitual driving on revoked came after a deputy spotted driver operating a vehicle on Game Ridge Road, knowing he did not have a valid driver’s license. Total bond was $35,000. Driver was also arrested by Smithville Police on March 2, 2021 for violation of an order of protection.
Jacob Daniel Demps, 35, of Cookeville was arrested on Feb. 25, 2021 and charged with domestic assault. On Feb. 25 a deputy dispatched to Sparta Highway for a 911 hang-up when dispatched notified him of a possible domestic. When the deputy arrived at the location, he noticed a gold truck leaving that matched the description given by dispatch. The deputy did a traffic stop on the truck, which Demps was driving. After statements from a female it was found that Demps was the aggressor and he was arrested. His bond was set at $5,000.
William Alton Rainey, 57, of Sewanee, Ga was arrested on Feb. 27 for three counts of violation of probation. However, he obtained another charge including resisting stop/halt/frisk/search once confronted with the outstanding warrants. Two deputies were dispatched to a location on E.H. Hass road, where they made contact with Rainey. A check with central dispatch revealed Rainey had three outstanding warrants in DeKalb County, and he took off running on foot. He was caught but tried pulling away from the deputies and continued to try run away. He was taken into custody by force. His bond was set at $3,000.
On Feb. 28 a detective responded Highland Drive for a possible meth lab in a shed behind a residence. Deputy were already on the scene. Thomas told deputies everything in the shed was his. Consent to search was given. Inside the shed was a bottle with a hose running out the top and taped. A bottle with chemicals was also found, along with pseudoephedrine, instant ice packs, crystal drain cleaner, muriatic acid, lithium batteries, coffee filters and various paraphernalia items. Items were also found outside the shed in a grill. When Thomas was searched prior to being taken to the jail, a silver container with five yellow pills, believed to be Xanax was found. His bond was set at $5,000.
Sergio Cruz Garcia, 18, and Megan Elizabeth Owens, 22, both of Smithville was arrested on March 3 for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Garcia and Owens contributed to and encouraged the unruly behavior of two female juveniles by aiding and encouraging them to find another female juvenile.
Joseph Stephen Aldus, 36, of Smithville was arrested on March 4 for theft of property. A deputy tried to make contact with Aldus at a residence on Bethel Road about an outstanding warrant in Warren County. Upon arriving, the deputy saw a black Audi matching the description of a stolen vehicle. Central Dispatch confirmed the 2001 Audi was stolen out of Coffee County on Feb. 16. After speaking to Aldus, he admitted to having ownership of the vehicle.
Scottie Lynn Sykes, 48, of Smithville was arrested for domestic assault on March 7. A deputy responded to a residence on Allen Ferry Road where dispatch had received multiple 911 calls. A female at the location said she had been being abused by Sykes. She showed signs of abuse as the left side of her face was swollen and a bleeding cut on the back of her head. Sykes was determined to be the aggressor.
