The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department had a busy week, making arrests on everything from drug charges and domestic violence, to an attempted escape.

Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that on May 4, 37-year-old Ryan Lee Walden of Dale Ridge Road, Dowelltown, was arrested and charged with escape. Walden was an inmate at the DeKalb County Jail where a DeKalb County Correctional Officer gave multiple verbal commands for Walden to stay inside his cell or the officer would deploy his electronic control device. Walden reportedly ignored all verbal commands and then exited the cell, which is a violation of the jail policy. The correctional officer then deployed his Taser, and further actions were taken.

Walden is under a $10,000 bond and is due to appear in court on May 20.

On May 5, 25-year-old Christopher Keith Lane Derrick of Floyd Drive, Smithville, was arrested for violation of probation out of General Sessions court, and methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possession. He is under a $5,000 bond and is due to appear in court on May 13.

According to Sheriff Ray, a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department deputy observed Derrick operating a green Mazda truck, and the deputy had prior knowledge of Derrick having a violation of probation warrant in DeKalb County. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and advised Derrick of the warrant.

Derrick was placed into custody and a search incident to arrest revealed a clear plastic baggy in Derrick’s hoody which contained a white crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately .5 grams. He was transported to the DeKalb Jail with no further incident.

On May 6, 22-year-old Jesse Glenn Ferrell of Dry Creek Road, Smithville, was arrested for criminal impersonation and public intoxication.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy was dispatched to Hurricane Ridge Road for an unwanted guest call. When the deputy arrived, Ferrell, who was a former employee at the address, was inside the building. When the deputy asked Ferrell what his name was, he stated that his name was Justin Yates, and that he was a friend of Jesse Glenn Ferrell. However, his ex-employer had a photocopy of Ferrell’s identification on file and showed it to the deputy.

The deputy asked Ferrell if he had consumed any drugs or alcohol, and the man allegedly stated that he had smoked marijuana and had taken a few shots of alcohol, as well as some speed, earlier in the day.  He is under a $3,500 bond and is due to appear in court on May 27.

On May 8, deputies made another methamphetamine arrest. Sheriff Ray said that 29-year old Britta Morgan Rollins of Davis Hollow, Liberty, is charged with methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possession, and on a failure to appear warrant out of General Sessions court. She is due to appear in court on May 27.

Authorities say that a deputy made contact with Rollins, who was a back seat passenger in a vehicle. After Rollins was removed from the vehicle and was detained, a pat-down search was conducted. The deputy then asked if she had anything on her person, and the woman allegedly stated that she had meth in her bra. Rollins then allegedly removed a clear baggy that contained a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine, which weighed eight grams.

That same day, 20-year-old Cedric Anthony Cruz Jr. of Church Street, Dowelltown, was arrested on an indictment for scheduled VI drugs manufacture deliver sell or possession. The indictment came from from the December 8, 2020, Grand Jury. He is under a $7,500 bond and is due to appear in court on May 18.

Sheriff Ray said that also on May 8, a couple having an argument in Alexandria found themselves in more trouble with the law. Authorities say that 28-year-old Tarren Jade Kyle of Malone Hollow Road, Alexandria, was also arrested for violation of bond conditions and domestic assault. She is under a $5,500 bond and is set to appear in court on May 27.

According to the arrest warrant, a deputy responded to a call on West Main Street in Alexandria for a 911 hang up. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Kyle, and 31-year-old Eric Dean Morgan of Griffin Hollow Road, Watertown, who both advised that a physical domestic had taken place.

The deputy then spoke to Morgan, who claimed that he and his girlfriend, Kyle, drove to a friend’s house and that when the vehicle stopped in the driveway, Kyle grabbed the keys out of the ignition. Morgan then advised that he attempted to grab the keys, when Kyle bit him on his wrist. Authorities say that the man did have scratches on his neck and shoulders, as well as marks on his wrist. Kyle was determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested for domestic assault.

After running both subjects’ names through Central Dispatch, it was learned that Kyle had bond conditions out of Smith County, and was not supposed to be near the male victim. She was then charged for violation of bond conditions.

In addition, Morgan was charged with violation of bond conditions and failure to appear in court after it was discovered he had the same bond conditions out of Smith County. He was not supposed to be near Kyle as well. He is under a $9,000 bond and is due to appear in court on May 27.

Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to 280 Sandgate Drive for a call of a man holding a knife and making verbal threats. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female that stated that Rollins was inside the residence along with her two children. The deputies went up to the door and could see Rollins inside, but when authorities asked the man to open the door, Rollins refused and ran to the bathroom where he barricaded himself inside. The deputies made entry to the residence and soon had Rollins in custody.

The female provided a written statement and a video of Rollins making verbal threats and waving a knife at her. He is under a $5,000 bond and is set to appear in court on June 3.
