Early Voting Ending Soon

Early voting for the May 3 primaries is nearly over with voting continuing today (Wednesday) 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Thursday, April 28, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. all at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Smithville.

On Saturday, April 23, 120 people voted, 108 in person with 12 absentee/assisted living votes. Just 95 voters cast ballots the day before, 93 in person and two absentee.

Voting on the Republican side is much stronger compared to votes cast in the Democratic Primary. As of Saturday, April 23, 778 voted Republican compared to 427 in the Democratic Primary. So far, 1,205 have participated in early voting, including 1,136 in person and 69 by absentee.

DeKalb County voters must bring valid photo identification to the polls in order to vote. A driver’s license or photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Tennessee State government or the federal government is acceptable even if it’s expired. College student IDs are not acceptable. For more information about what types of ID are acceptable and other election details, visit GoVoteTN.gov.

Completed absentee by-mail ballots must be returned by mail to the DeKalb County Election Commission. Ballots must be received before the polls close on Election Day, Tuesday, May 3.
