Fall Fest Pageants

Applications are now available for the Fall Fest Pageants to be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022 at the DeKalb County Complex. The pageants are for girls and boys ages up to 48 months and girls ages four years-old to 20 years-old. Participants must be a resident or student in DeKalb County. The contests will begin at 11:00 a.m. Applications are available at the Smithville Review, all local schools and the event page on Facebook. These pageants sponsored and held by the Smithville Business & Professional Women’s Club. Deadline to enter is October 14, 2022.

Are you raising a relative child or need housing assistance? Veterans Service Officer Ready to Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.

Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610.

DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this service.

School Calendar for 2022-23 Year

The school calendar is set for the 2022-23 yearDeKalb County students and teachers will have a full week off for fall break October 17-21, Thanksgiving November 21-25, and spring break March 27-31, and a two week break for Christmas December 21 to January 4. December 20 will be an abbreviated day. Students will return to school after the Christmas holiday on January 5, 2023. Schools will also be closed for Labor Day September 5, Dr. Martin Luther King Day January 16, President’s Day February 20, and Good Friday April 7. The last day of school will be May 24, 2023. Report cards will be issued at all schools on October 10, January 9, March 14, and May 24. Parent teacher conferences will be held at DCHS from 3-6 p.m. on October 10 and March 14 and at all the other schools, DWS, NES, SES, and DMS from 3-6 p.m. on October 13 and March 16.

We are going to cancel again this year due to covid. W are planning to have it next year. Remember third Sunday of October, hope to see you then.

 

DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive

A DeKalb County Neighbors Helping Neighbors Blood Assurance Drive will be Monday, October 17 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the County Complex next to South Congress Boulevard on the mobile Bloodmobile. Please remember to eat a good meal, drink additional water, avoid energy drinks, and bring a photo ID. This will save you 10 minutes on the mobile. Blood Assurance is the SOLE blood provider for our local hospitals.

 

 

 

Early Voting Dates and Times Announced for November Election, Oct. 19

The early voting and election day hours for the November election have been set by the DeKalb County Election Commission. Early voting begins October 19 and runs through November 3 at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Smithville and will be held on one day at the Fairgrounds in Alexandria. Times for early voting are as follows: Mondays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursdays 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. until Noon. The early voting date at the Fairgrounds is Thursday, Oct., 27 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.. The hours for voting at the 12 precincts on Election Day are 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Voters will be making their selections for Governor, Congressman and State Representative and voters in the 4th district only will have a candidate for Constable to fill an unexpired term. In addition, voters will be making their choices on four constitutional amendments

 

Habitat Chili Cook-Off and Bake Sale, Oct. 28

Who makes the best chili in DeKalb County? Find out on Friday, October 28th when Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County hosts a Chili Cook-off and Bake Sale. Chili will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the DeKalb Courthouse Lawn or at the DeKalb County Complex Auditorium in case of rain. For a cash donation, purchase a bowl and eat all the chili you want from all the teams and vote for your favorite chili and the best decorated booth. Delicious baked goods will also be for sale. Take out will be available. The proceeds from the Chili Cook-off will be used towards building another Habitat house with a DeKalb County family.
