A man with a history of vehicular homicide has been hit with evading charges after he led lawmen on a high speed chase, ending when he crashed his car on Sparta Highway.
The suspect, James Theodore Evans, 42, is charged with evading arrest, driving on a revoked, tampering with evidence and possession of drugs. According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, a deputy tried to pull him over on Broad Street after noticing a tail-light out on his Cadillac. The suspect refused to pull over and the officer gave chase until the suspect crashed on Sparta Highway. It was then lawman found Evans’ license was revoked for his involvement in a vehicular homicide in Wilson County. He had been revoked since 2007 for the vehicular homicide and had failed to re-instate his driver license.
“Evans placed the public at risk by traveling at high speeds without no regard to the public or officer’s safety,” the officer maintained in his warrant.
The deputy noted that Evans threw several items out of his window before he was stopped. Two containers of the items were recovered, one containing 1.6 grams of meth and the other contained an oxycodone pill.
“He tried to destroy evidence so it could not be used as evidence,” the officer said.
Evans is under $50,000 bond.
