DeKalb County Grand Jury, November 14

The next term of the DeKalb County Grand Jury will meet on Monday, November 14, 2022, pursuant to T.C.A. 40-12-105.

“It is the duty of your grand jurors to investigate any public offenses which they know or have reason to believe has been committed and which is triable or indictable in the county. Any person having knowledge or proof that an offense has been committed may apply to testify before the grand jury subject to the provision of Tennessee Code Annotated 40-12-105.

 The foreman in this county is presently Ms. Katherine Pack, 1 Public Square, Room 201, Smithville, Tennessee, 37166.” “ The grand jury will next meet on Monday, the 14th day of November, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. You may be  prosecuted for perjury for any oral or written statement which yu make under oath to the grand jury, when you know the statement to be false, and when the statement touches on a matter material to the point in question.”

 

Fall Tennessee Master Beef Classes

The DeKalb and Warren County UT-TSU Extension will be presenting a stellar slate of speakers for the annual Fall Tennessee Master Beef Class. Master Beef Certifications dated prior to January 1, 2019 are required to take the course to remain eligible for TAEP programs. The cost of the class is $100.

Dates, times, and locations for the meetings are as follows:

Tuesday, October 25 at 6 p.m.: Dr. Allen Stateler, Nutrition and Forage (located at the DeKalb County Community Complex, 712 South Congress Boulevard, Smithville)

Thursday, October 27 at 6 p.m.: Dr. Mark Turney, DVM Herd Health and BQA (located at the DeKalb County Community Complex, 712 South Congress Boulevard, Smithville)

Tuesday, November 1 at 6 p.m.: Drs Troy Rowan and Charlie Martinez, purchasing the right bull for your economic advantage (Magnolia Room, Warren County Administrative Building, 201 Locust Street, McMinnville

Thursday, November 3 at 6 p.m.: Heath Nokes and Johnny Barnes, end product and weed control (Magnolia Room, Warren County Administrative Building, 201 Locust Street, McMinnville)

Fall Craft Bazaar, Nov. 4-5

First United & Bright Hill UMC United Methodist Women's 2022 Fall Craft Bazaar at Smithville First CFC,  102 W Church St Friday-Saturday, November 4-5, Friday 10am-4pm & Saturday 10am-1pm, Lunch is available from 11am-1pm both days. Homemade soups, sandwiches, chips, sweet & unsweet tea, coffee, and desserts.Various handmade crafts, baked good and more available to purchase.

 

 Annual Pecan Sale Fundraiser

It’s that time of the year and Smithville Lions Club is selling the delicious Mammoth (halves) pecans. A 1lb bag is only $11. Smithville Church of Christ Trunk or Treat, Oct. 26

You are invited to Trunk or Treat. A Halloween event for the children of Smithville October 26 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ. Students of all ages will be able to Trick or Treat, enjoy a free meal, play games. Enter a costume contest and attend the Bible Study at 7 p.m.

 

DCHS presents Open House

DCHS presents an Open House October 27 starting at 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. featuring several Big Events including a Band Concert from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and a Choir Concert from 7 to 7:40 p.m. Project Graduation will present a Haunted House from 5:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Make a donation to enter. The Haunted House will remain open two hours later than the Open House. Other activities include a LIVE wax museum, trick-or-treating, yearbook FLASH SALE, interactive student projects and work on display, chili cookoff, CTE/STEM demonstrations, face painting, hair braiding, and carnival games, and food trucks!

Indian Creek Baptist Church – Join us for Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 5-7pm. Wear your costumes and enjoy candy and fellowship.

 

Fall Festival

Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Indian Creek Baptist Church from 11am-2pm. Free fun for all ages. There will be food, games and a bounce house. Located at 967 Hurrican Ridge Road, Smithville.

   

Parkinson’s support meeting, Nov. 1

The group meeting will be Tuesday, November1, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Caney Fork Baptist Church, 2404 Highway 70 s., Cookeville, TN. The speaker will be from Uplands Village in Pleasant Hill. They will share information about the services the Village has to offer, as well as how to optimize function as we live with Parkinson’s disease. Call Laura at 931-319-0309 with any questions.

 

The 28th Annual DeKalb County Angel Tree Project, Nov.11

 Signups will be held Friday, November 11, 2022.   It is one day only.  There are NO EXCEPTIONS. Application time is from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center, 101 West Church Street, Smithville under the carport.

Applicants must be DeKalb County residents.  Children from birth to no older than age 12 by December 25, 2022 are eligible. You must bring photo identification and a bill with the correct current DeKalb County address of the person applying. You must also provide social security cards and birth certificates (Mother’s copy is okay) for all children listed on the application.  Guardian paperwork for temporarily placed children is acceptable. Documents are returned to the applicant, only the application is kept. Please make sure you fill out the application as completely and accurately as possible.

If an applicant cannot appear in person, their application can be submitted by someone else as long as all of the required information and documentation is presented. Come prepared with all of the necessary documentation to complete your application between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm on Friday, November 11th. This is the only day that applications will be available and accepted.  NO EXCEPTIONS. Due to continued COVID 19 issues, face coverings are required and social distancing practices will be observed. The L.B.J. & C. Development Corporation Head Start Centers and the Central Office will be closed November 11, 2022 in observance of Veteran’s Day. The Head Start Centers and office will re-open on November 14, 2022.
