Several came together to remind the community that October is breast cancer awareness month.

Showing solidarity in the fight against breast cancer, several came together Friday morning on the front steps of the downtown courthouse for the annual DeKalb County Pink-Out.

“We are very excited because this is our fifth annual DeKalb County Pink out for breast cancer awareness,” said Shan Williams, Regional Community Relations Coordinator for St. Thomas Health. “”We’re encouraging the community to remember the importance of mammograms this month.”

Williams noted that St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital has 2-D and 3-D mammography services which is the best in the state. “We have more 3-D mammography machines in our region than there are in Nashville,” she pointed out. “So be sure to schedule your mammogram and take those preventative measures toward preventing breast cancer.”

Williams added that most families have been effected by cancer and that early diagnosis is the path to successful treatment.

“We know that everyone has been touched by cancer in some form,” Williams said. “And we want to do everything we can to fight that terrible disease.”
